River Raisin Pay for Performance program offers farmers a one time payment for reducing phosphorus losses. To begin, click Runoff Calculator at the top of the screen and follow the instructions. For assistance, contact Amy Gilhouse, the program’s local technician, at 517-673-1655 or crossroadsfarm@yahoo.com.

This tool supports the goals of The Stewardship Network’s (TSN) Pay for Performance project in the River Raisin Watershed of southeast Michigan, a joint effort between TSN, Michigan State University Extension (MSUE), the Graham Sustainability Institute at the University of Michigan (UM), Winrock International, the Institute of Water Research at Michigan State University (IWR-MSU), and the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering at Ohio State University (OSU). The project is funded by the Environmental Protection Agency’s Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

The tool allows users to digitize field boundaries in the watershed, describe the agricultural operations on the field(s), view modeled estimates of nutrient runoff, and evaluate potential incentive payments for adopting conservation practices.

Modeled estimates were produced through the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) by researchers at UM and OSU. This online tool was developed by IWR-MSU, and is part of the Great Lakes Watershed Management System toolkit.
