Vector
Vector Data Types:
In vector data the basic units of spatial information are:
- Point = Location position, no area.
- Line = Length, no width
- Polygon = Area and perimeter
Advantages of Vector Structure:
- Capable of handling points, lines, and areas as seperate classes of
data.
- Topology can be completely described, including network linkages.
- Great looking graphics ("Looks like a map is supposed to")
- Classification generalization is easy, however, the end map user cannot
detect that the data have been homogenized; such processing description
must accompany the map.
