Generic GIS Functions


 Analyze
      The strength of a GIS lies in its analytical capabilities. Using combinations of the following processes, an accurate picture of the current landscape, as well as the possible effects of future decisions can be analyzed. Analysis can include:

Reclassify (Return to earlier discussion.)
Grouping, ungrouping or changing the values of different features.
Overlay (Return to earlier discussion.)
A fundamental GIS step can be used to simply incorporate features from different maps or to perform the powerful "Map Algebra" functions.
Distance and Connectivity (Return to earlier discussion.)
Useful for describing proximity, movement, buffers, and viewsheds.
 Neighborhood (Return to earlier discussion.)
Allows user to specify the area of scrutiny.
