Analysis
The strength of a GIS lies in its analytical capabilities. Using combinations
of the following processes, an accurate picture of the current landscape,
as well as the possible effects of future decisions can be analyzed.
Reclassify
- Grouping, ungrouping or changing the values of different features.
Overlay
- A fundamental GIS step can be used to simply incorporate features from
different maps or to perform the powerful "Map Algebra" functions.
Distance and Connectivity
- Useful for describing proximity, movement, buffers, and viewsheds.
Neighborhood
- Allows user to specify the area of scrutiny.
